Nicola Thackwell (she/her/hers) is a facilitator at MyWorkplaceHealth and a Registered clinical counsellor at Dr. Joti Samra, R.Psych and Associates. She graduated with a masters degree in Clinical Psychology and Communality Counselling and holds a second masters degree in Psychological research from Stellenbosch University.
Nicola is passionate about promoting societies and communities that support mental health and she facilitates workshops for MyWorkplaceHealth that aim to enhance knowledge and understanding of mental health, resilience and wellness, in both personal and workplace settings. Recently Nicola has presented workshops around the role of emotional processing in employee wellbeing (Bel Group), as well consulting on an architectural urban innovation project where the needs of users with Autism were specifically considered (ZAC Saint-Vincent de Paul). She also has a particular interest in adolescent mental health and group work, and has run psychoeducational workshop programs aimed at building resilience and increasing awareness around the mental health of young people (The British School of Paris).
Having lived all over the world herself, Nicola has a special interest in immigration and the assimilation challenges that many people face. She is passionately committed to being an ally to those who find themselves in a minority group on the basis of race, culture, gender and, sexual orientation and has published her research into the impact of structural racism and sexism in medical training.
In her free time Nicola enjoys camping, hiking, woodfires and hot-weather holidays. She is a mom and loves the open- hearted, community spirit of Vancouver.
