Emory Oakley is the Social Media Copywriter for MyWorkplaceHealth. He is responsible for prepping content to be posted live on the website and social media platforms.
Emory holds a BA in Psychology and a Bachelors of Social Work, as well as course work in creative writing from Douglas College. Emory plans to further his career in writing by continuing his education in Marketing. Prior to joining MyWorkplaceHealth Emory worked as a Support Worker at homeless shelters in Vancouver.
Emory has always been passionate about writing and started his writing career as a poet. He has competed nationally at poetry slams including; the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word (CFSW), the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam (CIPS) and the Individual World Poetry Slam (IWPS). He also toured the Pacific Northwest as a spoken word poet. His goal is to engage in a writing practice that has a positive impact on individuals and his community; often this includes writing about mental health, gender, sexuality, and other LGBTQ+ issues.
Emory is passionate about workplace health because he has had difficult experiences managing mental health at work and wants to help change the stigma around mental health, especially in the workplace.
When not writing, Emory is probably thinking about writing, or watching hockey, at the gym or the local brewery, or at home playing with his cat, Rocket.
